Current issues include:-
MHSWR - Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations
Regulation introduced in 1992 to supplement the Health and Safety at Work Act.
Employers have to Undertake risk assessments and to control these risks.
2004/42/EC-The Product Directive
This new directive is aimed at certain markets with determined solvent levels. As from 1st January 2010 new levels of VOC have been introduced which coatings have to comply so that they can be used in the appropriate sectors. It is advisable to seek technical support prior to ordering to ensure products supplied meet this new demanding legislation
COSHH - The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health
This legislation has been in place since 1988 and employers are required to assess the health risks of the products they use and where practical replace with less hazardous products.
REACH- Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation of Chemicals
REACH became law in EU countries on 1st June 2007 and will impact on many business sectors such as manufactures, importers and end users. Further information on REACH can be found at www.hse.gov.uk/reach
DSEAR-Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmosphere Regulations
These regulations are about the risks from fire and explosions that can occur from the use of dangerous substances in the work place. Minimum requirements are in place to protect the workforce from fire and explosions situations that could arise in work place.
1999/13/EC - Solvent Directive
This directive has replaced the EPA 1990 Regulations for the wood coating industry.
Factories using more than 15 tons of solvent (VOC ) in any 12 month period should had complied since 1999.
Customers using between 5 - 15 tons of VOC should have complied by 31st October 2007 and those below 5 tons are exempt.
